A lifetime resident of Marshall County, Wes has a true understanding of the needs of the Tennessee Valley. He graduated from Guntersville High School and then attended The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, where he played football under Coach Gene Stallings and Mike Dubose. He graduated with a degree in Finance from Culverhouse School of Business and was awarded All-Academic SEC honors as a student athlete. He moved on to the University of Missouri, Kansas City where he acquired his Juris Doctorate and an MBA in Entrepreneurship. In 2004 he started, Long & Associates and the Title Group LLC in Guntersville, Alabama. His primary focus was real estate transactions, title insurance and business organization development. As the firm grew, he took on more attorneys and took the firm to a broader scope of practice to include civil litigation, business litigation, divorce & family law, collections, estate planning & asset protection and lord-tenant law. Long Flanagan & McDonald now with offices in Huntsville and Guntersville, deals with numerous clients including First National Bank of Scottsboro, People’s Bank of North Alabama, Peoples State Bank of Commerce, Brand Mortgage, Southern Home Mortgage, and BancorpSouth as well as real estate firms such as ReMax Auctions, Inc. and Lake Guntersville Real Estate. Wes is a title agent for Stewart Title Guaranty Company.
As well as being an active civic leader, he is also a Rotarian, a member of Lions Club, the ELKS lodge of Marshall County, a member of the University of Alabama A-Club, a member of the American Bar Association, a member of the Alabama Bar Association, and a Member of the Alabama House of Representatives. In the Legislature he serves on the General Fund Budget Committee, the Financial Services Committee and the Joint Committees on State Parks and Nuclear Energy. He is Christian and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Guntersville and actively runs and participates in all of his companies that range from real estate management to hotel development to recreational facilities. He has a wife, Jordana and two perfect kids, Mac and Maly Kate.
Hugh graduated from Pinson Valley High School near Birmingham and attended The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa where he graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. He continued his graduate studies at Alabama under the JD/MBA program and earned his Juris Doctorate and Masters in Business Administration. Hugh understands the value of hard work and gained that understanding working for his father’s family construction business, Flanagan Contracting, LLC which focuses on heavy earth moving and general contracting in the Birmingham-Metro Area. During his undergraduate and post-graduate years at the University of Alabama, Hugh would act as project manager on large scale projects such as The Summit Shopping Center in Birmingham and the construction of the US postal office in Pell City, Alabama. Hugh’s focus is now on civil litigation, Juvenile Law, Domestic & Family Relations, and Criminal Defense.
After graduation, he practiced with the firm of Porterfield, Harper, Mills & Motlow, PA in Birmingham. There his primary focus was all facets of civil litigation with a focus on insurance defense and construction defect cases. In 2007, Hugh left Porterfield, Harper, Mills & Motlow, PA to join his long-time friend, Wes at his practice in Guntersville. In March 2011, Hugh was appointed as Marshall County Judge to fill a vacancy left by Judge Liles Burke. Hugh is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, active in the First United Methodist Church and is a Rotarian.
He lives in Guntersville with his wife Jessica and their two children.
Stephen, a native of Huntsville, graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a Bachelor of Music. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School Of Law and also received his M.B.A. from the University’s Manderson Graduate School of Business. Stephen is an accomplished musician who plays guitar, bass guitar and piano, having performed at multiple private receptions for legal dignitaries such as Justice Samuel Alito of the United States Supreme Court, and Beverly McLachlin, Chief Justice of Canada.
Stephen focuses his practice on litigation which covers a wide range of legal issues including family law, juvenile matters, consumer transactions and finance, civil rights and criminal defense. Stephen enjoys the diversity of his clients, the opportunity to try new, exciting cases and the chance to address novel questions of law and fact.
He has worked with the Tuscaloosa District Attorney’s Office and Judge Charles Malone, former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court. Stephen is also a professor at Kaplan Test Preparation where he instructs and tutors students preparing to take LSAT and GMAT entrance exams to law and business schools. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Marshall County Bar Association, the Madison County Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Madison County Volunteer Lawyer Program.
Rachel is a native of North Alabama, graduating from Arab High School in 2003. She attended Wallace State Community College and earned her Associates Degree in Paralegal Science. She attended Faulkner University, earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration and in 2010, she received her Juris Doctorate from Birmingham School of Law. Rachel worked at several law firms as a paralegal while working her way through graduate school and did an internship at the Marshall County District Attorney’s Office. Rachel then joined the Hawkins Law Firm as an associate attorney. Her focus at Long, Flanagan & McDonald is Domestic Relations, Estate Planning & Asset Protection, Credit Disputes and she assists in Real Estate Closings.
Rachel is active in the Marshall County Republicans Club, the Marshall County Bar Association and is a member of the Alabama Bar Association.
